Hp Ipaq 214 Enterprise Handheld Firmware Update
I can no longer synchronize my HP iPAQ 214 Enterprise Handheld with my PC that uses Windows 10. I had been able to do so until recently, May 24. This last time I tried, using the cable to connect the two units, as I have been doing for several years, two beeps like in the past, indicate that the iPAQ 214 has started trying to connect with the PC, as I can ascertain by looking at Active Sync in the iPAQ 214 handheld; it goes on for about a minute and then quits without having achieved the connection. Before I used to click on an Icon (shortcut on the desktop) that would launch the mobile connection. I do not see that particular icon anymore.

I have tried to download Windows mobile 6 to the PC but it is not allowed, probably not compatible with windows 10 any longer after updates installed. I have windows mobile device center installed and when I click on 'WMDC.EXE' it gives the impression of starting -little round blue circle that rotates for a second or so- but does not launch any program. There is no communication between my iPAQ 214 handheld and my PC windows 10. Thanks for any help. No I have not tried; I have only one PC and was thinking bringing my iPAQ 214 with me when I go to Germany the week of July 17 to visit my son who is much more computer savvy than I am and has a PC with windows 10 just like I do.
I guess I could find someone on site that has a PC and would be willing to let me try. Please let me know if I should do so and I will try. What was the last activity you've made to your computer prior to the issue? Last time I had synchronized the iPAQ with the PC was the 24th of May this year.
This time around it would not synchronize though. I did not load any programs or made any changes to the PC other than the regular windows updates that are done automatically.
I did, don't remember why, run maintenance through HP support assistance. At some point I read that I had two firewalls, one that came with the PC and one from Panda Internet Security that I use and it was indicated that having two active firewalls could create conflicts; so I deactivated the one that came with the PC. I am quite sure they had been both active for sometime at least and I had had no issues. When I tried a couple of days ago to Synchronize my iPAQ with my PC it no longer worked.
So looking up for some information on the internet I read that 'windows mobile device center' should be removed going to Control Panel. I did that which removed an Icon (shortcut) on my desktop that I had used to launch the mobile communication program.
Before uninstalling the program I checked the properties of the shortcut and it pointed to some program -do not remember what it was- in Windows/ WindowsMobile. Upon uninstalling 'windows mobile service center' the shortcut was removed from the desktop. Then I tried reloading the program from the Internet and was not able to do so. so I used File Explorer and realized that the WindowsMobile folder was still in its place although I could not see it searching in the control panel.
I then clicked in the folder WindowsMobile the program 'setup.exe' and this reinstalled the program and I was now able to see it in the control panel. This operation did not install back on the desktop the shortcut I had had to launch the mobile communication program as int the past. I then connected the iPAQ to the PC and heard the two beeps that normally happen when the communication tries to start, that is the device is searching for the PC to connect to.
In the past I would have clicked on the shortcut I had on the desktop and communications would start and synchronization followed. I could then find the iPAQ in 'This PC' in the computer and I could save files directly from the PC to the device. Obviously the device, not being able to communicate any longer with the PC, does not appear in 'This PC'. I then went to the folder Windows/WindowsMobile and clicked on 'wmdc.exe' which tried to start something but went no where. No error messages, nothing.
Just this little blue circle that rotates for a second or so as if the program would launch, but nothing. After the initial contact/message by Michelle Vil on July 1, 2017 I was contacted on July 7 (two days ago) by land phone by someone theoretically from Microsoft in California. This guy had indian accent and I was glad to have help in such a direct way from Microsoft.

Then he started showing me on the screen of my LAP TOP all the myriad of virus problems that I had -infected like crazy- and how hackers were trying to enter my bank account. Then he listed the various programs I had to download to solve all these serious problems that I had and that would shut my computer off for good if I did not act. I inquired as to the cost and he replied it was a service from microsoft free of charge. Then my screen showed the 'the access to my UBS bank account just like it appears when I click on ubs e-banking Login which is in the bookmarks bar of my LAP TOP'. He then said that Microsoft would deposit money into my account to pay for the software I would need to download to solve all the virus and hacker problems I had. Clearly I got very suspicious and said I would first need to contact my UBS bank and so asked him to contact me the next day after I had contacted UBS.
Then it is when he said that I needed to act right away otherwise in 24 hours my computer would shut down for good. I refused to type in my contract number of my account and insisted I would first contact UBS. Then he hung up and my LAP TOP went blank. I pressed the 'off' to turn it off and then contacted UBS immediately and agreed with them to impede any access to my bank account using e-banking. So now not even myself can have access to it. Then after the call (15-20 minutes) I realized that the LAP TOP had not shut down completely and had this circle rotating around as when it is turning off. Then I pressed and held the 'off' button until it shut off.
I also tried contacting the director of the UBS branch where I have my account but could not find him. So I wrote an e-mail to him and repeated the story sending the phone numbers that my phone had registered around the time of the call from that fellow with the indian accent, supposedly Microsoft employee from California. There were 5 phone numbers all from England as the country code was 0044. I had to take my LAP TOP to a computer shop to get it running again. I do not know understand much about computers but it was reset to some day in the month of June, so before the work of this guy on July 7, a couple of days ago. It works fine now but I have not had the impedance to my e-banking Login activated back again. I will first check with the director of the bank.
