Call of Duty Modern Warefare 2 install problem. Sorry if this has been covered before in another thread. I am new to Call of Duty 2 weeks, and ½ a week with the Steam site with modern warfare 2, which I have not learnt to navigate properly. I have Call of Duty 4 Modern Warefare installed and working fine on a windows 7 operating system. I have been trying to install Call of Duty Modern Warefare 2 on the same system. However I can't get it to play.
First let me say I wish to play in single player mode. I am loading Steam from the disk with the internet connected with an active user account. Steam also automatically updated itself.
Earlier I tried downloading Steam from the web site and could not get it to run. I am not sure which of the web sites is the genuine one, perhaps a number. After installing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 from the disk, Steam wants to update a 11 Gb file which I understand to be the size of Call of Duty modern warefare 2. I read on the net but not in the Steam forum that someone did this and the program did not work. This is a very large file for me to download.

I would only do this if absolute necessary I have had a number of Error messages, such as: “Win 32 Error 32, The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.” Or “Error: delete of Steam.exe failed, Win 32 Error 5, Access denied” I have done my best to uninstall and delete the program as best I could. Using the program and features in the Control Panel, So I can start a new Installation. If all fails I will be stuck with Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, which is not so bad. I hope I can find this thread again if there is a useful reply. Thank you for the advice. I Reinstalled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Then in 'Steam' Under the title 'All Games', I right clicked Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, clicked Properties. Under the Tab 'Local Files' I found ' Verify Integrity of Game Cache'. I left click this. A box popped up.
'Validating Steam Files -100% complete. 'All files successfully validated'. I closed the box. Tried to run Call of duty: Modern Warfare 2, single player.
Steam indicated under Heading 'All games'. Call of Duty: Modern War. 0% Updating 300KB/s. Steam wants to download the entire 11 GB file.
Steam seams not to recognise the installation from disk. I have limited download capacity, also on another forum, someone explained they allowed 'Steam' to do this. When they tried to run the program the same thing happened again, Steam wanted to download the entire program again.
There wasn't a resolution to this issue on the other forum. Steam seams to me, for some reason not to acknowledge the file, though I am far from a computer expert. I appreciate any help expecially those who have posted help up to now.

If there is no resolution I will just have to be happy with Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. 'Then in 'Steam' Under the title 'All Games', I right clicked Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, clicked Properties. Under the Tab 'Local Files' I found ' Verify Integrity of Game Cache'. I left click this.
A box popped up. 'Validating Steam Files -100% complete.' It's exactly what I did. The box popped up told me I had 58 files missing (don't know why!!??). It seems that resolved my problem = when i clicked on 'Play' (Jouer) MW3 in my library, it worked as before and could play the game immediatly. So, I don't understand your problem. If steam don't recognise your disk, put it out of your computer and let steam download it.
Even if it takes long time, you will have the game. 'Steam indicated under Heading 'All games'.
Call of Duty: Modern War. 0% Updating 300KB/s' = it's what we see when we download a game in steam so. Just check the downloading is not in pause and you should see: Call of Duty: Modern War. 1% Updating (or downloading)) Call of Duty: Modern War.
Call of Duty: Modern War. 100% Also maybe you don't have to install the entire game but only the updating. I am not sure but I think to remember when i have installed some games, i began to see in my library (for example) Call of Duty: Modern War. 70% Updating 700KB/s (0 to 100%). And after Call of Duty: Modern War. 10% Downloading 800KB/s (0 to 100%) Hope that can help you. The upload has to do with the trouble with Favela recently, I re-installed mw2 just two days ago and it's playable without the download in SP mode.
You can pause and play as normal but I assume you eventually want to play MP so the download is mandatory for that. There is an alternate option for you to bypass your download limit and that is to look someone nice in the eye you know who doesn't have that download problem. A once installed on their system after an authorize e-mail and then backup the mw2 program on disk/stick and then de-authorize again via your own pc.and presto your in business.
Happened to me. And ah got frustrated seing 100mb something out of /11.3 gb. But to my surprise. I dont know to explain but the steam isnt actually downloading the whole 11.3 Gb its just showing something like 6gb/11.3gb but its not!
Its just downloading the neccesary updates. And in my case it wasnt even a size of a GB. Im current installing it then came up with this update thing. I cancelled it or suspend it after 15-20 minutes of updating and was really surprise to see that its 11.1gb/11.3 and i dont think it download the whole file within that lenght of time because my maximum download rate is around 200-250kb/s so just give it a try and let it download it self. 200-250kb/s wouldnt take an hour to finish the update.
Considering its not the actual 11.3gb.
