The farm isn't the best farm there is, but there are a lot of baby animals and fun things for kids to do. Highly recommended for kids, but not so much for adults because it's very family-oriented. The pumpkin patch isn't all that great either; there is a very limited selection of nice pumpkins, but of course, it's for the experience. My favorite highlights were seeing the piglets, calf and baby goats! Best of all, you could pet most of them! It was incredible to see the baby animals and they have this chick incubator where there were at least 20 chicks inside.
Pretty amazing. There are lots of photo opportunities and random thins for kids to play on, like a tunnel to crawl through, a 'find the money' in a haystack activity, as well as a huge teepee for kids to run around in. I took my Little on a Sunday and it was packed!
If the parking lot gets full, I'd suggest parking across the street by the houses. Before you go to Fairbank Animal Farm, there's a few things you need to do.
First, wait until October of each year because that is when they are open to the public. Second, pick up cash ahead of time because that's all they take and there is no ATM nearby.
My first visit to the farm was two years ago. I was a little tired of driving from Seattle to different pumpkin patches and wanted to find something closer.
After a bit of searching on the google machine, I decided on this one. Admission will run you $2.50.
Upon entering, you are provided with a cup of food to feed the birds. Don't forget to bring enough cash for your pumpkins and do your math ahead of time since there is no 'cash register,' just manual adding which may or may not be correct. I love the country feel of the farm - it makes for a lot of great pictures. Lots of hay bales, country displays, and fall decorations are everywhere. I have to say that I am afraid that I will be there when it gets dark because the same fun loving farm can easily turn into a pretty decent horror movie. (Note to self: Ask for permission to film cheap B movie.) Anyhow, when you enter the farm, you will find multiple varieties of ducks and chickens in cages that you can feed.
Floppy hat (2:46) 3. Kinder (3:07) Side B 5. Allan Holdsworth. Wish (4:20) 4.
Also in cages are pygmy goats (super cute) and pigs (kind of cute, depending on size). A barn holds a few more animals but from my perspective, the bunnies and chicks steal the show. There is an incubator where chicks are in various stages of hatching and another area where older chicks are. Kids love to 'pet' the animals but be sure to use the hand sanitizer.
After browsing around the farm, you can grab a cart and head up the hill to check out some pumpkins and a little mini-corn maze. The pumpkin prices are marked on the pumpkins.
A medium-smallish pumpkin is between $8 - $10 so plan accordingly since it's cash only. If you're looking for huge bells and whistles like other pumpkin patches, this isn't for you. But, if you're looking to buy your pumpkins from somewhere other than a grocery store and a bit of a country feel, then you are in the right place. I had driven past this place for years and never gave it a look.
After our pumpkin patch day ended up scheduled on a day where there were sporadic downpours I suggested we try this place closer to home instead of venturing out to Snohomish to only get stuck in rain. The animals were ADORABLE.
From feeding all the birds to handing out to watch the baby pigs, the little ones had a blast. Only giving 4/5 stars as the pumpkins were WAY overpriced. Next time we will just visit for the animals and skip the pumpkins. This is our second year bringing our toddler and baby. This place is great!
It's a real farm that is only open to public during October. For 3 bucks a person you get to see a nice variety of animals that you can pet and feed. The best part of the animals is seeing baby ducks and newly hatched chicks! They have adorable baby goats too! There is a tiny hay bale tunnel and a hay area the kids can play in. Up the hill are a great selection of pumpkins right where they were actually grown. They provide wheel barrows for the pumpkins which the kids can also ride in.
The prices are reasonable and the family who runs the place are very friendly. Addressing some negative reviews: -conditions for the animals seem fine.very farm like. The animals look happy and healthy. Yes, you may smell some animal feces in some of the areas, but last time I checked animals are still pooping.the pumpkins are not just thrown in a field. I've been 2 years in a row and have not seen this. On Friday, 10/25/13, I took a group of 15 young adults with intellectual disabilities-who paid $6 each to visit the animals and pick a pumpkin. The condition the animals were living in were deplorable; it smelled so badly of feces (as if it had not been cleaned for months); the cages seem inadequate and run down, and were just full of mud/feces.
There was a little duck that was obviously not doing well when we first arrived. Before long, he was on the ground (nearly dead). His foot was twitching for a little while then he died. We told 'farmer Kathy ' our tour leader and she did nothing; we were not the only group there. (see attached pictures of the living conditions of the ducks) Many school groups with very young children followed us and the dead duck remained in the pen. I have made a report to animal control and Pasado's Safe Haven. The pumpkin 'patch' was nothing more then a grassy patch filled with mud where pumpkins were dumped for kids to 'pick'.
The whole tour took about 25 minutes-a huge waste of money. This so called 'farm' deserves to get shut down. Do not take your family here. I love this pumpkin patch/ animal farm. To be honest, we don't go for the pumpkins, but for the animals. Even though I've heard of great pumpkin patches in the outlying areas, I keep bringing my daughter here because of the up close experience with the animals.
My favorite part of this place is the Pygmy goat pen, and I could honestly stay in there all day if my daughter didn't drag me out to go get pumpkins. I'm still trying to figure out how to steal a baby Pygmy goat. Just kidding. We went to Fairbank last week and discovered that one of the sows was giving birth to her piglets right then.
My daughter was absolutely fascinated, and we were able to stand right in front of the action and watch one of the farmers assist the mama, rub the piglets with hay, and set them down near the mama to learn to walk and feed. It was amazing, and the farmer was very good with the children, answering all of their questions and letting them pet a 10-minute old piglet. I'm glad we've made this place a part of our autumn traditions, and will be returning next year. This is a dreadful place to bring your children. My kid's preschool insisted on schlepping the children here each year. The only reason anybody goes here is because it's close to Seattle and easy to access. Bull calves were being kept cooped up in small indoor pens.
When I asked if they were ever let into pasture, I was met with a blank stare. I have to guess that the poor things are probably being confined as veal calves. (Note I am not a vegetarian; I just believe in humane treatment of livestock.) There was a free-roaming cat with kittens-seriously, kittens? Ever hear of spay/neuter and overpopulation of cats? Visit the Seattle animal shelter sometime and see all the unwanted cats there. Not enlightened or educational thinking going on here. Filthy animal pens, tightly confined creatures-I was so glad when the preK finally shifted over to visiting a pleasant farm on the Eastside.
If there was a (-10), that would be my rating. I cannot believe this place has not been shut down. I went here and the ONLY outdoor potty was filled almost to the top with poop. Yes, seriously.it was that bad. The feces in the pens are mixed with the mud and the kids are put in there 20-30 at a time, slipping because of the mud. The animals do not look healthy and I can't imagine the amount of germs floating.
This is only made worse by the fact that all the purell stations are empty!! It's not enjoyable at all. It's completely run down. Looks like a junkyard with piles of waste. The people who work there don't care!!! They don't want you to touch anything and they didn't care that the bathrooms are gross. The school bus drivers that I ran into said they didn't like this place, didn't know why it's still open.and 'something is really wrong here'.
DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS HERE. It's the most horrible place I've been.
